Delta Magic Kicks Off Rising Leaders Program
Thursday, October 24th marked an exciting new beginning for a group of enthusiastic high school seniors as Delta Magic launched the Rising Leaders program. This initiative empowers students to plan events for their community while equipping them with essential financial literacy skills.
The program aims to foster leadership qualities among students, encouraging them to take initiative and create positive change. By learning about financial management, budgeting, and event planning, these future leaders will not only enhance their personal skills but also contribute to the growth and well-being of their community.
Meet the Rising Leaders
The inaugural session brought together a dynamic group of students eager to dive into this transformative experience. Here’s a look at the passionate participants:
Janiyah Brown
Mija Hardinson
Maddie O'Briant
Kelsey Gregory
Mollie Lewis
Brooke Harris
Tyson Clemens
Lekeyvious Mathews
Myanah Carter
Jaylen Hudson
Each of these students brings unique talents and perspectives to the table, and they are all excited about the opportunity to make a tangible impact in their community.
A Focus on Community and Financial Literacy
During their first session, the students engaged in discussions about community needs and brainstormed ideas for upcoming events. Their capstone project will be an event for the community they feel speaks to an existing need.
This year, the Rising Leaders program has evolved to include a strong emphasis on event planning and community engagement. Compared to last year's program, which focused primarily on financial literacy, this addition allows students to actively connect with their community while applying their financial knowledge in real-world contexts.
Brooke Harris expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I’m looking forward to mingling with more people in the community and learning about financial things I’ll need to be successful, such as credit scores, loans, and things like that.” Maddie O'Briant also shared her optimism, saying, “I’m looking forward to an improved community with more opportunities.” Adding to this, Janiyah Brown mentioned, “Being in this program, I expect to be a positive change in my community.” These sentiments reflect the group's shared desire to grow personally and professionally while making a difference in their surroundings.
In addition to event planning, the program emphasizes the importance of financial literacy. Understanding how to manage finances effectively is a critical skill that will serve these students well in their future endeavors, whether they pursue further education or enter the workforce directly. At the end of the program, the students will receive a bank account and $500 deposited in that account.
Looking Ahead
As the Rising Leaders prepare for their upcoming sessions, there’s a palpable sense of excitement in the air. The students are eager to learn, collaborate, and take on the challenge of being agents of change in their community. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and it’s clear that they are committed to making a difference.
With programs like Rising Leaders, powered by Delta Magic, the future looks bright, and we’re thrilled to witness the growth of these young leaders as they embark on this impactful journey. Let’s cheer them on as they pave the way for a stronger, more connected community!
